The bible contains many stories about fishing; Jonah and the whale, several of Christ’s disciples were fishermen, Jesus told them to when to fish, and several miracles included fish. The act of fishing played a part of Christ’s ministry. In fact, when Jesus was telling his followers to go into the world to share the gospel he described it as fishing for men.

When fishing in modern day, we are not only spending time in creation which of itself is of enormous benefit, but we can also use that time to commune with God. It is a reminder for the fisherman to not only catch fish but to preach the word of God.
